Several perpetrators work together, with one distracting the victim. The other tries to get their valuables unnoticed!
People ask for small change or want to change large notes. In doing so, they steal banknotes or give out counterfeit money!
You are approached by strangers. You are lured away from your vehicle under a pretext such as changing money, asking for directions or because of an alleged breakdown or accident. Another offender takes advantage of this to steal valuables from your vehicle while you are distracted.
The perpetrators knock on parked vehicles at night, preferably empty delivery vans with gun carriage trailers for transporting cars. As a lot of cash is suspected here, the risk of becoming a victim is particularly high! The perpetrators lure the driver behind the vehicle and claim that there is a flat tire or another problem. An accomplice takes advantage of this situation and steals valuables, bags, rucksacks etc. from the vehicle.
The perpetrators prefer to attack after midnight in the early hours of the morning. This is when the surprise effect is greatest! Throughout the week, most offences occur on Wednesday nights. Almost exclusively non-German vehicles are attacked, mostly vans from PL, LT, UA. Occasionally also LV, H and CZ. Less than 1% of the victims are German vehicles. The perpetrators are mostly described as southern European, sometimes as eastern European.
You are asked for directions or a map or sat nav app is held up to you. The perpetrators get very close to you and you are robbed.
Call the police! You will receive a report confirmation for your insurance company. It is possible that parts of the stolen goods that are unusable for the perpetrators will be left in the neighbourhood and can be returned to you later. Inform your bank immediately and have your cards cancelled if payment cards have been stolen!
